NewcastleGateshead Cultural Venues is a collaboration between 10 building-based cultural producers operating 20 venues across visual arts, performing arts, music, dance, film, writing and literature, heritage, archives and museums and science communication in North East England.

This website explains how and why we are working together and also shares some documents that we have generated that may of practical use to others in the cultural sector.

Built on a decade of informal partnership working between 10 cultural leaders in NewcastleGateshead, since 2009, NGCV has become embedded as part of the everyday working lives of staff and volunteers across all the member organisations.

Every year we assess our collective economic impact. In 2017-18 our total economic contribution to the North East was £99.7 million, we directly employed 1,434 people and supported 2,118 jobs in the region. Collectively, for every £1 of public money invested, there was a return on investment £5.16.

Groups of staff and partners collaborate when we can add value to our own organisations, NGCV and the sector as a whole.  Our current collaboration focuses around two main strands - audience development/public engagement and efficiencies and standards of excellence in how we operate.

Bradley Creswick, Leader of Royal Northern Sinfonia, has been awarded a special commendation as part of the prestigious Salomon Prize.
